The Rosebud
Fairest
flower, lovely rose
Queen of
a Summer’s Day :
Velvet petals,
crimson hued,
Such beauty
takes my breath away.
I pluck
the rosebud, grasp it tight,
Then cry
aloud in pain.
The thorns
are sharp, their bite is keen,
I fling
it down again.
Then I muse,
such too is life,
Where joy
and pain combine:
Sun and
shadow, side by side,
As light
and dark entwine.
I cannot
throw the bud away,
Although
it caused me pain.
This time
I’ll hold it tenderly
And take
it up again.
I’ll
cherish my sweet rosebud more
For showing
me today:
Life can
be harsh or can be sweet
So grasp it while you may.
